Speak UP!

Designed to engage 8th grade youth in leadership development and philanthropic endeavors. Selected students attend a two-day training retreat that involves them in a variety of challenging activities. Speak UP! is aligned with many of the content standards and benchmarks developed by national organizations and the State Department of Education. The goals are for the students to internalize what the word “philanthropy” means and develop a lifelong interest in civic involvement. 

 

Phil.

Build and strengthen the civic spirit, character development, and community leaderships skills of high school youth in Newaygo County through enhanced opportunities for: volunteer and neighborhood service, community-decision making and social action/advocacy, and service-oriented work study experiences.

 

Mind Over Matter

A program that uses a variety of activities to foster creative thinking and problems-solving skills in youth ages 10 to 13 years old. These include physical and mental activities that are designed to challenge the participants.

 

Keystone Club

An advisory board consisting of high school age youth from Newaygo County. They focus on program development and implementation. The youth provide valuable input regarding the interest of area young people. Currently, Keystone Clubs have been established at White Cloud High School as well as Newaygo High School.  To learn more about the Keystone Club Click here.

 

Time Out for Kids

A program developed for the home schooled population ages 5-18.  Time out for Kids uses games, initiatives, and activities to promote social interaction as well as physical activity for home schooled youth within Newaygo County. 

 

The Alley

A social gathering location for Newaygo County high school students to use during critical after-school time. Youth participants designed the operational hours, budget, policies, activities, and functioning of The Alley. NCCS staff serve as adult facilitators working with youth to ensure that The Alley is a positive and safe environment for all.

 

Middle School Mondays

Offers program specific activities for middle school aged youth of Newaygo County.  Program focus on homework help and tutoring, as well as arts, crafts, physical activity, and science.  This program meets in The Alley on Mondays during the month of May from 2:30 until 6:30pm.  NCCS staff serve as adult facilitators working with youth to ensure that The Alley is a positive and safe environment for all.

 

Higher Horizons

Focuses attention and programming on youth looking for a higher level of creative, physical, and mental challenge. The program is in response to community members seeking opportunities for these youth during out-of-school time, including after-school and summer time.

 

Circus Jam

Learn all kids of circus skills such as juggling, cup stacking, walking globe, flower sticks, and more.  This program teaches youth skills that help to improve balance, dexterity, and coordination.  Program concludes with competitions and community performances.  Spring session starts soon!!

 

Newaygo County Student Theater

Teaches fundamentals of theater arts and stage direction, and occasionally music and line reading, breath control and choral singing to children in the third through eighth grades.

 

RAYZ

RAYZ is a community performing arts ministry sponsored by NCCS Boys and Girls Club of Newaygo County in partnership with the First Congregational Church of Fremont.  RAYZ members learn confidence building circus skills and theater skills as they create fun and uplifting skits.

 

Creation Station (and Creation Station Jr.)

Recreational summer “arts” programs offering hands-on creative experiences to children and mentally disabled adults. Classes in visual arts, theater, dance and music are offered at various locations all summer long throughout Newaygo County.

 

Club 48

After school program for 4th-8th grade students of Newaygo County.
