Goals

  • Increase student academic and recreational proficiencies through thematic/disguised learning strategies.

  • Increase parental involvement.
     

  • Strengthen student motivation and self-esteem.
     

Project FOCUS impacts participants through a variety of activity choices including;

 

Experiential Education
Provides the opportunity for participants to explore learning through interactive programs. Youth will use cooking, leisure sports (golf, Frisbee, biking, etc), rock climbing, hiking, cultural arts programs to learn more about themselves and the world around them. These programs will integrate academic skills to support the schools education goals and objectives.

 

Environmental Education
Connecting youth to their environment through fishing, water studies, land use studies, orienteering, nature hikes, wetland studies, animal research, and camping. Staff will use the environment to support biological and life science studies and to teach the importance of conservation and preservation. Staff also utilizes the unique water, forest, and topographical areas of Lake and Newaygo counties to provide participants the opportunity to learn. 

 

Stars on the Road

Provides special outings throughout the year that will include unique opportunities which will engage the participant and provide a superb environment for learning.

Project FOCUS receives funding through a 21st Century Learning Center grant from the Michigan Department of Education.
