A.R.T.S. (Artists Reaching, & Teaching Students) Enlists the aid of high school and middle school art educators in Newaygo County to develop programs designed to enhance visual arts education.
Art Contest and Art Trip Allows students to enter their artwork in a countywide contest. The student’s pieces are on public display for a week after being judged by a guest art professional. Winners receive a ribbon and the top winners each receive a “scholarship”, which includes a four-day trip to Toronto or Chicago. During their trip they visit many world-class museums and galleries, and a Broadway-caliber play.
Art-In Provides an intensive workshop at NCCS Camp Newaygo. A guest artist leads students and their teachers in a concentrated, hands-on, creative art experience. The program can be applied throughout the academic year as a foundation for further art projects in the classroom.
Artist-On-Loan Allows each art educator (middle and high school) to select an artist to visit his/her class to instruct and demonstrate a particular art form. Generally, a short-term (1-2 day) project.
Art Study Trip Organizes and transports a group of students and educators from throughout Newaygo County to tour art museums in a metropolitan area, typically Chicago, Detroit or Toledo.
Living Artist Series Provides the opportunity each year for one high school and one middle school in Newaygo County to bring a professional artist into the classroom for an extended teaching residency. The artist often works with the students to create a permanent piece of art that remains on-campus for generations to come.
