Big Brothers Big Sisters’ vision is to provide a mentor for every child who needs or wants one. If you are a parent or guardian of a youth who you believe can benefit by having another adult mentor in their life or you are a high school or adult who believes you can bring “Magic” to the life of a child by becoming a Big, call (231) 924-0641 and ask for Stacy, extension 125, or Nicole, extension 121.

Community-Based Mentoring

Traditional one-to-one match with a child, age 5-15, and a caring adult volunteer. Activities can include going fishing, playing games, going to a park, art class, movies, or any other approved activity. Tremendous care goes into the recruitment, screening and matching process. Once a match is made, goals are set and regular contacts are maintained between the parent, child, volunteer, and staff.

Site-Based Mentoring

Matches youth, ages 5-15, with a caring adult volunteer. Activities are conducted at predetermined locations, such as a faith-based, business, or community organization. Volunteers can be high school-aged or adults who complete a structured application and training process before they are matched.

S.T.A.R. (Success Through Adventure and Relationships)

Designed for youth and adult mentors from the community to share unique and exciting experiences, develop new hobbies, and learn from each other. Youth are challenged to push themselves to try new things and test their spirit of adventure as a means of building confidence and self-esteem. Mentors will model healthy living, positive choices, and help to motivate youth. Youth will be encouraged to expand their notions of the possible and set their future direction.
