Music Enhancement

Activities are tailored to enrich music education and provide encouragement to those who are interested in vocal and instrumental music. The Music Enhancement Committee is made up of Newaygo County music educators.

 

High School Marching Band Clinic

Unites the marching bands of Newaygo County for an autumn event to which the public is invited. Each band performs their half-time show for a panel of guest clinicians who offer on-site feedback after each performance.

 

High School and Middle School Vocal Clinics

Provides daylong experiences for area chorus’ to come together with a guest clinician to work on music skills, interpretation and technique.

 

Middle School Honors Band Clinic

Brings together nearly 100 advanced band students from area middle schools to work and play under the direction of a guest conductor/clinician. The clinic includes lecture, rehearsal, sectional workshops and an evening concert to which the public is invited to attend.

 

Music Scholarship Contest 

Provides an opportunity for eighth through eleventh grade students to perform before a panel of guest adjudicators. Immediately following the student's performances, the adjudicators provide each student an official critique offering suggestions for improvement. Up to 15 students receive monetary music scholarships to develop their abilities by attending music camp, receiving advanced instruction or others ways to enhance their musical talent.

 

Fall Tune Up

A one-day event early in the school year designed to get high school music students "fired up" about their talents & abilities, and to help build leaders in Newaygo County's bands, choirs and orchestras. 

 

Strings Clinic

Provides an opportunity for string students from Newaygo County's schools and private teachers to come together for a day-log educational exercise with a recognized clinician.
