The NCCS Volunteer Resource Center strives to enhance the quality of life in Newaygo County by promoting and supporting volunteerism. We are conveners for the community, catalysts for social action and key local resources for volunteer involvement. We bring people and community needs together through a range of programs and services based upon community needs, and other factors.

 

GOALS

  • Promote consistent, coordinated volunteer services throughout the community.

  • Discover, recruit, train and refer volunteers.

  • Promote collaboration and shared projects throughout the community by linking resources.

  • Link individuals, service providers, volunteers, and resources through a comprehensive database.

 

 

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

 

Medical Reserve Corps

 

The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps of Newaygo County is to be the catalyst for trained medical and supportive service volunteers to serve Newaygo County when disasters or emergencies strike.

 

The MRC consists of medical, health-related and other professionals designed to supplement local emergency plans and resources already in place in Newaygo County.

 

All members of the community are encouraged to volunteer their skills and training. Volunteers may include, but are not limited to:

  • Practicing, Retired, or otherwise Employed Health Professionals
    including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, nursing assistants, veterinarians, respiratory therapists and others

  • Public and Mental Health Professionals
    including epidemiologists and health educators

  • Others with Essential Emergency Response Skills
    including social workers, interpreters, chaplains and support staff

  • Administrative and Support Staff
    including, community members without medical training in order to assist with administrative, transportation, and other essentail support functions

Project Literacy

 

Where words have new meaning. Offers free confidential, one-on-one tutoring in basic reading and writing skills for adults.

 

A trained tutor will meet with the adult on a regular basis in a quiet, convenient location at a time that fits their schedules using Project Literacy support materials or community resources.

 

The goal of Project Literacy is to ensure that all Newaygo County adults with literacy issues have access to services that will help them gain basic skills necessary for success in the workplace, family and community.
